During the world cup soccer playoffs in July of 2006, the entire city was mobilized for fandom.  (Check out this image if you want further proof).  The Italian team had a chance to win the cup, and the entire North End of Boston, which is heavily Italian, really got into it.  Above is a headband showing off the Italian flag colors, placed upon the head of Christopher Columbus.
